The Historic Kingdom of Marwar
The Kingdom of Marwar, also known as Jodhpur State, was one of the most influential Rajput kingdoms in Indian history. It was ruled by the Rathore clan from 1243 to 1947 and became famous for its military strength, magnificent forts, royal palaces, and extraordinary artistic traditions.
Founding and Capitals

- 1395: Capital shifted to Mandore.
- 1459: Rao Jodha established Jodhpur as the capital of Marwar.
Under the Rathore rulers, Marwar grew into a powerful princely state and continued to exist under British rule until India’s independence in 1947.

In Jodhpur, the name Royal Marwar is also associated with the Royal Marwar Club, a well-known dining and event venue located in the foothills of Umaid Bhawan Palace at Umaid Heritage, Ratanada, Jodhpur.
The club offers a multi-cuisine restaurant, rooftop lounge, and event spaces for weddings and parties. Vegetarian dining is generally reported to start from approximately ₹650 per plate (subject to change).
